End of Q2 2025 Update

July 9, 2025

We’ve officially wrapped Q2 2025 up, and it’s time to reflect on one of the most dynamic quarters in ValleyDAO's journey so far. From ecosystem investments to biotech breakthroughs and tools like Phlo, we've made serious progress on our mission to fund and accelerate climate biotech innovation.

Strategic Partnerships & Spinouts

We proudly welcomed Juniper VC into the ValleyDAO ecosystem through a strategic $100,000 investment. Their support strengthens our ability to fund climate biotech research that otherwise struggles in traditional ecosystems.

Our portfolio spinout BioHalo emerged from stealth with the launch of their new website. They're targeting the "forever chemicals" crisis with novel biopolymers and have already raised $1.8M to-date to scale their vision.

We’ve welcomed Dr. Matteo Di Giovannantonio as our Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Matteo holds a PhD in Oncology and Bioinformatics from Oxford and brings extensive industry and startup experience with a demonstrated track record of translating computational biology research into market-ready products, including co-founding and supporting multiple biotech ventures across Europe and the US. In his EIR role. Matteo is leading the commercialization of a computational biology spinout from Prof. Jean-Loup Faulon's lab. This project leverages machine learning to dramatically improve strain engineering efficiency and has already secured BASF as a customer.

Project Milestones

Cocoa Zero scaled from 500ml to 12 liters at Imperial College London, producing cocoa-like fats at 100g/L. This is a critical step toward our first cocoa-free chocolate bar, which we plan to debut within the DeSci ecosystem before expanding into the broader consumer market. There’s been a few of different updates from Cocoa Zero in the last couple months:

The Hempy project delivered promising data indicating that our enzymes can effectively smooth hemp fibers. Next steps include testing fiber strength and spinning the new material into fabric. We’re one step closer to climate-resilient, hemp-based textiles.
