We believe in the power of collective action to create a fairer and more equitable bioeconomy

Synthetic biology leverages biological organisms to sustainably manufacture products such as animal-free meat, nutrients, clothes,  fuels, fertilizers and  medicine. We believe that access to these technologies is going to be paramount in solving the existential threats of climate change and food security.

ValleyDAO is a global and open community that funds and collectively incubates academic and independent research projects. We help researchers maximize the impact of their work by taking their research results beyond the bench and into the real world.

Production of Oils and Fats in Oleaginous Yeast

Microbially produced oils and fats have a wide range of applications, such as the production of biofuels, infant formula, and ethical palm oil. Ledesma-Amaro's project aims to improve the production yield of oils in yeast while simultaneously decreasing expensive downstream processing.

Sustainable Biofluorination of Organic Molecules

Fluorinated organic molecules are difficult to manufacture sustainably due to requiring harsh chemical conditions. Nikel’s group has developed a process to biomanufacture a diverse set of fluorinated molecules that can be used in the electronics, healthcare, automotive, and wearables industries.

SynbioCAD: A Software for Bioproduction Pipelines

SynbioCAD is a software for designing metabolic routes for bioproduction that can save technicians hours of work. It enables end-to-end pathway design and engineering, from strain and target selection to the generation of scripts driving liquid handlers for plasmid assembly and strain transformations.

Our Ecosystem

How can ValleyDAO’s community and network support your research?
The submitted research projects go first through a due-diligence process followed by a community vote. The projects green-lighted by the community get funded.
The IP generated through funded research is then made productive. This could be through sub-licensing to industrial partners or spinning out into a startup with support from the ValleyDAO community.
The proceeds are not only passed back into the ValleyDAO community treasury to fund new research projects but also given to the researcher(s) in the form of royalty payments or startup equity.
